St Andrew’s College runs within the CAMHS service and provides an individualised and bespoke timetable of education for all children in our care. We follow the Trauma Informed Care treatment model in line with the wider CAMHS service.
Within a few days of the children arriving on the ward, our teachers will begin to engage with them, learning about their future goals and aspirations and their interests, likes and dislikes. They will then build up and devise a busy and structured timetable of engaging activities designed to build trust, self-esteem, self-confidence and a desire to learn and gain qualifications. This will be agreed with the young person to ensure it is in line with their own expectations.
Designed specifically for the needs of the young people in our care, is a non-maintained college which is aligned with our CAMHS treatment model of Trauma Informed Care. The College provides a safe and supportive space where people can enjoy individualised opportunities to learn, achieve and believe in themselves. Our College’s aims are to give every young person:
Activ8 Curriculum
St Andrew's college has designed a curriculum which works hand in hand with our trauma informed care approach to provide holistic development to our pupils. It covers the development of key skills and processes such as self -esteem, self-confidence, resilience and personal coping skills alongside academic and personal development skills and understanding.
The Activ8 curriculum has been designed to foster in pupils:
How do we deliver our curriculum?
This curriculum is based on the National curriculum and includes access to all subject areas, but is taught in a more bespoke way to enable our complex learners to feel safe and make progress.
Our latest Ofsted report issued in 2021 rated the St Andrew's College as 'Good' overall and 'Outstanding' for behaviours and attitudes..
One in six school-aged children between the age of 5 and 16 experience a mental health issue.
With 50% of mental ill health developing by the age 15 and 75% developing by the age of 18, it makes sense to focus on the wellbeing of young people before issues arise. Creating a positive culture for mental health and wellbeing in schools is an integral part of improving the lives of young people and education staff.
That is why St Andrew’s College, part of St Andrew's Healthcare, has developed the LightBulb Mental Wellness Programme for Schools. It is designed to help schools create a whole school approach to improving the wellbeing of their pupils and staff.
In addition, The LightBulb Mental Wellness Programme offers the MHFA (England) Youth Mental Health First Aid Courses at a heavily discounted price for all LightBulb Schools.
We are also happy to discuss individual school's mental health and wellbeing training needs and create bespoke training where possible.
